TELEPATHOLOGY WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED

How does The Grundium Ocus® Remove The Entry Barrier To Going Digital?

Moving from conventional light microscopes into digital pathology can seem daunting. Many digital systems are cumbersome and come with proprietary software, which require changing the hospital workflow. Big change is usually unwelcome, especially when resources and people are already scarce. The Grundium Ocus® makes the best professional diagnosis available for all life. Here’s why it is so easy to use.

FITS ANY WORKFLOW

A Grundium Ocus® series scanner can be integrated with any workflow models and lab systems and it supports the most common file formats, .svs and .tiff. The browser-based software works with any system. It also comes without any annual/monthly fees or hidden costs. Grundium’s APIs make it possible for AI to be integrated in the process.

WORKS WITH ANY COMPUTER OR TABLET

The Ocus’ user interface is fully web-based, which means it can be used on any device with internet connection and a web browser. Grundium supports all major browsers. The Ocus is particularly intuitive to use on a touchscreen device, like a tablet, where zooming in or out and moving the object happen at the touch of the fingertips. Where an ethernet connection isn’t available, the Ocus can connect to a WLAN/wifi network or a mobile hotspot.

SIMPLE AND FAST SETUP

The Grundium Ocus microscope scanners are very easy to set up. Unlike large multislide scanners, which may require a room of their own with a calibrated, perfectly level table to rest on, the Ocus has a footprint of 20 x 20 20 cm (ca. 8” x 8” x 8”) and is small enough to find a spot almost anywhere, like right next to the cryostat.

Once a sample is prepared in a glass slide it’s a quick job to examine it:

  1. Insert slide
  2. Set up scan (10 seconds)
  3. Scan the slide (2 minutes)
  4. View the image file on your computer

INTUITIVE TO USE

Scanning the slide can be performed by anybody with 15 minutes of training. The expert pathologist can in turn be anywhere in the world as long as they have internet connection and a web browser (computer, laptop or tablet). The pathologist doesn’t have to leave home and is available to work on far more cases.

REMOTE OPERATION

A Grundium Ocus works like a webserver. The pathologist logs in to the Ocus software in their browser where they can remotely operate the scanner to look at any part of the slide. The Remote Live View feature also lends itself to making rapid onsite evaluation. This is the essence of telepathology.

SHARING THE VIEW

By sharing the controls of the scanner, the pathologist can quickly set up a group of people all simultaneously collaborating on the same slide, in one microscope scanner. Not only does this make educational purposes and group work exceptionally simple, but it’s so easy a second, third or fifth opinion is now just a click away.

PORTABLE LIKE NOTHING ELSE

The Grundium Ocus® travels anywhere in its own case small enough for aircraft cabins. The Ocus doesn’t require a perfectly level desk to stand on. It isn’t sensitive to vibration and can even scan in a moving vehicle, if that’s your thing. With a powerbank it can be used even where there are no wall sockets. The Ocus is mobile and portable beyond anything else!

The Grundium Ocus personal slide scanners make digital pathology simple and fast. Their excellent quality-to-price ratio makes an Ocus attainable to practically any pathology establishment, since a heavy procurement process is usually not needed. A Grundium Ocus truly has what it takes to be the staple equipment of any hospital, clinic and school, a fantastic remote tool in every location of a pathology service provider, and even on every pathologist’s desk as a personal scanner.

Quotes
We have excellent images with the Ocus and I couldn’t be happier to have this little helper on my desk here. I use it mainly as a microscope tbh but of course, scan my slides as well. It has really helped me so much.
